Name & Link to Tech Tool or Tool homepage: UFO Attack- Space Angles
Brief Description of Tech Tool: Students must measure given angles to blast UFOs.
Technical & Cost considerations: This is a free game. It requires the use of Adobe Flash Player and it could be used with a smart board.
Evaluation
Description of Learning Activity:
Students can practice measuring angles
1. Learning Activity Types
-practice for fluency
2. What mathematics is being learned?
NCTM Standards
-Measurement
-apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements
Proficiency Strands
How is the mathematics represented?
The mathematics are represented in a virtual manipulative. One disadvantage of this tool is that there is not a protractor provided to measure the angles. A real protractor could be used to measure the angle on the screen but that would be cumbersome.
4. What role does technology play?
The technology allows students to practice measuring a variety of angles.
Affordances of Technology for Supporting Learning
5. How does the technology fit or interact with the social context of learning?
This tool is meant for individual use.
6. What do teachers and learners need to know?
Students need to know how to use a protractor or have a good understanding of angles in order to make an estimate about the angle measures. This tool does not require any special technological knowledge to use.
