Name & Link to Tech Tool or Tool homepage: Grand Slam Math
Brief Description of Tech Tool:
Studets practice solving word problems. There are two levels to choose from, Addtion & Subtraction and Multiplication & Division. When students answer questions correctly they score a run for thier baseball team.
Technical & Cost considerations: This is a free game. It requires the use of Adobe Flash Player and it could be used with a smart board.
Evaluation
Description of Learning Activity:
Students work together or individually to practice solving word problems.
1. Learning Activity Types
NCTM Standards
-Number and Operations
-understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another
-compute fluently and make reasonable estimates
Proficiency Strands
How is the mathematics represented?
The mathematics is represented as graphic that changes for each question. It only says the word problem and does not provide any pictures for the students to use when solving the problem.
4. What role does technology play?
The technology allows students to practice solving word problems indpendently and get immediate feedback about whether or not they answered correctly. The practice is in the form of a game to keep kids engaged.
Affordances of Technology for Supporting Learning
Students can work together or make it a game to see who can score the most runs. It can also be played individually for differentiated practice (+, -, x, /)
6. What do teachers and learners need to know?
THis game is very easy to play and does not require any special technology knowledge.

Students work together or individually to practice solving word problems.
1. Learning Activity Types
- Practicing for fluency
- Applying mathematics to problems and situations
NCTM Standards
-Number and Operations
-understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another
-compute fluently and make reasonable estimates
Proficiency Strands
- Procedural fluency- students must accurately add, subtract, multiply, or divide
- Adaptive reasoning- students must think logically about the problem in order to choose the correct operation

Affordances of Technology for Supporting Learning
- Computing & Automating - Students must solve the problems but the computer can give them instant feedback about if they are correct
- Representing Ideas & Thinking -
